Joanna is a Master’s Level Counselor that earned her M.A. from University of Denver in International Disaster Psychology: Global Mental Health and Trauma. Joanna provides counseling for adults, teens, and children. She is a member of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. Joanna utilizes EMDR , Trauma Focused CBT, Child Centered Play Therapy, and Narrative Therapy in her practice.
With over a decade of experience in acute settings including inpatient, residential, crisis centers, and county jail, Joanna approaches therapy through systemic and liberative perspectives. She believes in the inherent resilience of the human spirit and embraces a strengths-based lens when working with individuals who have experienced trauma, marginalization, abuse, grief and loss, as well as other challenges and stressors. She hopes to help clients engage and enhance the stories they tell themselves and about themselves to others. Joanna is dedicated to partnering with individuals in distress to walk together toward healing, particularly those who have experienced trauma, and strives to provide clients with a collaborative, story-focused process, which allows for free expression, creativity, connection to their bodies, and growth that continues outside of counseling.
